Sustainability

An engineering outcome, not a slogan.

The environmental case for these materials is the same as the commercial one: use less of them, and replace them less often.

Most of the impact of a structural material is spent before it is installed — in producing it — and again every time it is repaired or replaced. A material that lasts longer and uses less mass to do the same job reduces both, without anyone having to choose the sustainable option.

That is why sustainability is not a separate programme here. It falls out of the same properties customers buy the material for.

Commitments

Where the material helps.

  • Clean water and sanitation

GIM Concrete is produced without water, removing one of construction's largest resource demands.

  • Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Materials that are stronger, lighter and longer-lasting than the incumbents they replace.

  • Sustainable cities and communities

Infrastructure engineered for long service life with minimal maintenance.

  • Responsible consumption and production

Waste plastics, biochar and industrial by-products locked into structural material rather than landfilled.

  • Affordable and clean energy

Thermal management materials that reduce the energy cost of cooling digital infrastructure.

  • Decent work and economic growth

Skilled manufacturing employment, built through licensing and joint ventures rather than exported wholesale.
